Welcome to our blog / newsletter where we share and review our Grade 2
learning!
As you know, we began our Spelling program this week. Students were
placed in one of 3 groups and are learning how to read and follow instructions
on these activities. These lessons involve reading, sentence writing, working
with a list of words, and in the more challenging group, an introduction to
editing. We will work on this program throughout the year during most
full-length school weeks, with the work due on Thursdays, and quizzes on the
word lists given on Fridays.
Students brainstormed several “Fall” words and used them to
write acrostic poetry. The completed poems will go into students’ Visual
Journals, which is where we put the majority of your child’s finished projects.
Visual Journals can be viewed during conference times and are sent home at the
end of the year.
In Math, we worked on recognizing and creating increasing patterns. Students used a variety of materials to create
patterns that increased with each repetition. Ask your child to recognize and
describe patterns around the home and neighbourhood.
Thanks for reading!
